A true Windows 10 means that the operating system license for your computer was purchased from Microsoft Incorporation. However, when third party activation software is used to activate it, it gets cracked. In this post, you will learn how to tell if Windows 10 is a real operating system or not.
There are many ways to find out if your Windows 10 is genuine or pirated. i shared it
Method 1: Using the settings
1) Click the Start button
2) Choose Settings
3) Click Update & Security .
4) In the left pane, select Activation
5) If the activation window shows ' Windows is activated with a digital license ', then Windows 10 is genuine and original as shown below
Method 2: Check if Windows 10 is genuine through this PC
1) Click the Start button
2) Type This PC and click on it
3) Right click on it and go in the drop down menu and click to properties
4) This will open the System window . If the message Windows activated is displayed in the 'Windows Activation' bar along with the product ID, Windows 10 is genuine.
However, sometimes the same product key can also be found on cracked Windows. So using cmd is a better option.
Method 3: Determine using the command prompt

2) Click the Start button at the bottom left
2) Type command prompt , then right click on it and choose Run as administrator .
There are three ways to use cmd to check real Windows 10.
Road I
- Type vbs /xpr in the command prompt . Here slmgr stands for Software License Manager and vbs for Visual Basic. Press Enter .
2) This will open the Windows Script Host
If the popup says Computer is permanently activated , then Windows 10 is genuine.
If the popup shows Volume Activation *Date* *Time* will expire, then your Windows is cracked and not genuine.
Road II
1) Type vbs /dli in the command prompt window and press Enter . This displays detailed information about the Windows Script Host.
2) Check if the license status is Licensed and a partial product key is displayed. In this case, your Windows 10 is genuine.
If it's not genuine, the volume activation expiration date , renewal interval, and third-party tool name are displayed in Description . This means that a third-party activation software was used to activate Windows 10.
Methode III
1) Type systeminfo and press Enter
2) Here all the original information from Windows including the product key is displayed on the cmd screen itself. This information cannot be modified even if Windows is cracked, thus showing the authenticity.
Method 3: Using the Run Toolbox
1) Press Windows + R key
2) In the Run toolbox , type vbs/dli and press OK
3) The Window Script Host dialog box opens. Here are three things to check:
- If the license status is ' licensed '
- If ' Description ' of Windows is provided without a 3rd party tool/software name
- If no activation expiration date is specified
If each of the above criteria is checked, then Windows 10 is legit.
Difference between genuine and pirated versions of Windows 10
There are few fundamental differences between the original version and the cracked version, but in reality you won't notice it.
In most cases, the cracked version contains hidden malware, spyware and many such applications. And you won't be able to find it even after installing it. However, once you start using it, your personal information will be transferred to the hackers without your permission.
Apart from that, usually the pirated version of Windows 10 runs slowly and you will notice it after few weeks. More importantly, you cannot download the latest update patches from Microsoft official website to keep your Windows 10 PC safe.
However, if you have the original Windows 10, your PC will run fast and be secure.
