How to fix Your Outlook Account Settings are out of date notification

Method 1: Delete your Outlook profile folder

1. Open Windows File Explorer by pressing WIN and E keys at the same time. Copy and paste the following into File Explorer's navigation bar. When you're done, press Enter.

You can now see your profile folder. Copy it to another location as a backup . When finished, select the folder under Microsoft\Protect path and press Delete to remove it.

If your issue is still not resolved, try deleting the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Comms  folder as well , just like you did with the profile folder. Be sure to copy the folder to another location as a backup before deleting it .

Method 2: Use Repair Account button

Let's start with the simplest solution first. This solution is said to work for many users and might do the magic for you too.

1. When you get the following notification just above your taskbar, click on it .

2. The previous step would launch your email app. There you have two buttons you can click: Repair Account and Discard. Click the Repair Account button .

That's it. Now wait until the problem is resolved. After that, the email app would close. Restart them and see if the problem comes back. If this is the case, try the other methods listed below.

Method 3: Sign in with your Microsoft account

If you use your local Windows account to sign in to your Windows, you can try signing in with your Microsoft account. This fixed the issue for some users.

1. Launch the Windows Settings app by pressing the WIN and I keys at the same time. Next, click on the Accounts tab .

2. Now, in the right pane, you will see the following. Instead, click the Sign in with a Microsoft account link .

3. The Microsoft login page will now open. Enter your Microsoft credentials and sign in .

4. Windows Security will now ask you to set a security PIN. Enter a PIN, confirm it and click the OK button .

5. That's it. You are now signed in to Windows with your Microsoft account instead of the local account. If you wish to manage your Microsoft account, you can do so by clicking on the Manage my Microsoft account link.

Check if your problem is resolved.

Method 4: Change the time synchronization server

A simple time sync server change can sometimes fix the "Your Outlook account settings are out of date" notification. Follow the steps below to do the same:

1. Open the Control Panel from the Run dialog box or from the Windows Start menu search bar.

2. When the control panel launches, click the Clock and Region link .

3. Now you need to select the Date and Time option.

Method 5: Sign in with your local account

If you were already signed into Windows using your Microsoft account, you can try switching to your local Windows account to check if that is the problem.

1. Open the Windows Settings app by pressing the WIN + I keys at the same time . Next, click on the Accounts option .

2. If you are already signed in with your Microsoft account, you can see the Sign in with a local account link instead , as shown in the screenshot below. click on it .

3. You will now get the Switch to a local account window. If you want to create a backup of your recovery key, you can click the Close and Backup button. Otherwise, continue to Skip this step below.

4. If you are asked for confirmation when switching to a local account, click on the Next button .

5. Now you will be asked to enter your Microsoft account sign-in password. Enter the password and click the OK button .

6. Once your Microsoft credentials have been verified, you will be prompted to enter your local account information.

7. That's it. After confirming the switch by clicking the Sign Out button , you will be signed out of your Microsoft account. Next, Windows will sign you in with your local account.

Check whether the "Your Outlook account settings are out of date" notification pops up again or not. If yes, please proceed to the next method.

Method 6: Check the email account password

If you recently changed your email account password through some other means, such as an online update, your Windows Mail app won't reflect that change. Try updating your account password from the Windows Mail app if you think this is the cause of your problem.

2. When the Control Panel starts, click the Clock and Region tab .

3. Next, click on the Date and time link in the clock and region settings .

4. The Date and Time window will now open. First click the Internet Time tab and then click the Change settings button .

5. Clear the check box for Synchronize with an Internet time server, and then click the OK button to save the changes.

6. You are now back in the Date and Time window . Just click the Apply button and then click the OK button . Check if your problem is solved or not.

Method 8: Disable Internet time synchronization from the taskbar

There is another way to turn off Internet time synchronization. Let's try it from the taskbar this time.

1. Right click on the clock in the taskbar and then click on the Adjust date/time option as shown below:

Method 9: Add a PIN to your PC

1. Open the Windows Settings app by pressing the WIN + I keys at the same time. When it opens, click on the Accounts tab .

2. Now click Sign-in Options in the left pane and click Windows Hello PIN in the right pane .

3. Next, click Add button as shown below.

4. You will now be prompted to verify your Microsoft account that you used to sign into your PC. Enter your password and then click the Sign In button .

5. Create a PIN, confirm it and then click the OK button .

6. That's it. Your PIN is now set. Check if your problem is resolved.

Method 10: Disable PIN

Sometimes it can happen that your PC has a PIN. So try disabling your PIN once if you have already set it to check if that is causing the problem.

1. Like the previous method, open the Windows Settings app and then click on the Accounts option .

2. In the next left pane, click Sign- in options and in the right pane click the Windows Hello PIN tile .

3. Next, click on the Remove button .

4. You will now be asked for confirmation to remove your PIN. Click the Remove button on that page as well .

5. Verify your Microsoft account by entering the password and then click the OK button.

That's it. Your PIN has now been successfully removed. Check if the "Your Outlook account settings are out of date" notification bothers you again.

Method 11: Check for Windows updates

Just keeping your Windows operating system up to date can fix almost all your Windows problems. Please check for new Windows updates and install them if found to resolve the issue.

  • Email address - Enter the email address. This will appear in the left pane of the Mail app.
  • Username - Enter your full email address.
  • Password - your email account password.
  • Account Name - Enter any name.
  • Send your messages under this name - recipients will receive your emails under this name.
  • Incoming Mail Server - Get the information from your ISP or administrator. Please visit the official Microsoft help page, POP and IMAP email settings for Outlook for information on many email account settings.
  • Account Type - Most email accounts use IMAP4.
  • Outgoing (SMTP) email server - Get this information from the administrator or ISP. Usually in mail.contoso.com  or  smtp.contoso.com format .

Once all the required information is filled out, click the Sign In button to complete the setup.

Method 14: Run WINSOCK reset command

1. Type cmd in the Windows Start menu search bar. Then right-click on the Command Prompt results list and select the Run as administrator option .

2. Run the command one by one from the elevated command prompt. Press Enter after each command.

Once both commands have been executed, restart your computer and check if the problem is resolved.
