Windows 10 laptop shuts down without low battery warning

Usually you will see a system notification alerting you when your battery is low so you can plug in the adapter. However, some users have reported that their Windows 10 laptop shuts down without showing the low battery warning. This can be annoying because if you had important apps, software or browser windows open, everything would close unexpectedly. In addition, you may also lose unsaved data.

Your laptop will display two different types of notifications, one warning when the battery is almost empty and the other when the battery level drops far below normal. This will help us save unsaved work or connect the adapter immediately. However, if you don't get any of the warnings, you should check your PC's battery settings.

Although there can be several reasons why your system shuts down unexpectedly without the low battery notification, battery settings can be one of the main reasons. This is a common problem and luckily it can be fixed. let's see how.

Method 1: Change the battery settings in the power plan

Each power plan includes different settings for disk, desktop wallpaper, USB, sleep mode, battery, and more. A power plan's battery settings now also offer various options where you can configure the battery level or notifications. Likewise, you can make changes to the battery notifications that can fix the problem. Let's see how:

Step 1: Go to Windows 10 Taskbar Search .

Step 2: Look for Edit power plan .

Step 3: Click on Edit power plan .

Step 4: Next, in the Edit plan settings window, click the Change advanced power settings link at the bottom .

Step 5: This will open the Power Options > Advanced Settings dialog box.

Now from the list, click the plus sign next to Battery to expand the section.

Step 6: Click the plus icon again to expand the Low battery notification option .

Make sure the On battery and Plugged in options are ON .

If not, click on the drop-down menu next to the On battery and Plugged in options one after the other and set them to the ON status .

Step 7: Next, click the Restore Plan Defaults button at the bottom .

Step 8: When done, press Apply and then OK to save changes and exit.

Close the Control Panel window and now the low battery warning should work.

Method 2: Tighten battery screws

However, if your laptop still shuts down without the low battery warning, the battery screws may be loose which may be causing the issue. In such a case, check the battery on the back of your laptop and tighten any loose screws. Now start your PC and the laptop should no longer shut down unexpectedly without the low battery warning.

If none of the above methods work, there may be an issue with the battery driver or the battery itself. Updating the battery drivers can sometimes fix the issue. If the battery is deteriorating or if the battery contains dead cells, you may need to replace it. You can also check that the system ventilation is working properly and the battery is not heating up.
