If you have your PC with a pre-installed Windows operating system, chances are you have a very generic name for your computer. If your computer isn't connected to a network, or if there isn't a scenario where your computer needs to be identified by its name, it's okay to use a generic name. However, if you need to identify your computer at all, a generic computer name makes it difficult.
Renaming your computer is very easy and in this article we will tell you 5 different ways to rename your computer.

Method 1: Change the computer name from the Settings app
Step 1 : Launch Settings app by pressing WIN + I keys at the same time .
Click System in the left pane of the window . In the right pane, click About .
Step 2 : Locate the Rename this PC button at the top of the About window and click on it.
Step 3 : Now in the Rename your PC window , type the new PC name in the dedicated text box as shown below.
Then click the Next button .
Step 4 : You need to restart your PC for the computer name to change. Either click the Restart Now button to restart the computer immediately. Or you can click the Restart Later button if you want to restart at a later time.
Method 2: Change the computer name from the Control Panel
Step 1 : Press WIN and R keys at the same time to open Run window . Type control and click OK button to launch Control Panel.
Step 2: In the Control Panel window, on the top right corner of the window, click Category in the About drop-down menu and select Small icons .
Step 3 : Now locate the System preference entry and click on it.
Step 4 : You will now be taken to the About window of the system. Here you need to click on the R Rename this PC button just like the previous method.
Step 5 : Now give your PC a new name and click on the Next button .
Step 6 : Your system needs to be restarted for the PC name to change. You can either restart your computer immediately by clicking the Restart Now button, or you can restart it later by clicking the Restart Later button.
Method 3: Change the computer name using Command Prompt
Step 1 : Click the Search icon on the taskbar.
Step 2 : In the search bar, type command prompt and click Run as administrator option.
Step 3 : In the Command Prompt window, copy and paste the following command and press Enter .
wmic computersystem where name="%computername%" call rename name="IHR-NEW-PC-NAME"
Note: Please be sure to replace "YOUR-NEW-PC-NAME" with the actual name you wish to change your computer name to.
On your next restart, your PC's name will change to the new name you just gave it.
Method 4: Change the computer name using Windows PowerShell
Step 1 : Right click on the Windows icon in the taskbar and then on the Windows Terminal (Admin) option .
Step 2 : When the Windows PowerShell starts, copy and paste the following command and press Enter.
Rename Computer-NewName "YOUR-NEW-PC-NAME"Note: Please replace "YOUR-NEW-PC-NAME" with the new PC name.
Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Method 5: Change the computer name through the system properties
Step 1 : Launch Run window by pressing WIN and R keys at the same time . Type sysdm.cpl and press Enter .
sysdm.cplStep 2: In the System Properties window, click the Computer Name tab .
Next, click on the Change button as shown below.
Step 3 : In the Computer Name/Domain Changes window, under the Computer Name text box, type strong> in the new PC name you want to give and then click the OK button at the bottom .
Step 4 : In the next step, click on the OK button .
After you restart your computer , you will see that your computer's name has changed to the new name you just entered.
