Fix Critical Process Died Error in Windows 11 & 10

 One of the most notorious BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) issues is associated with the " CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED " stop code in Windows 11 screen, don't worry. There are several reasons behind this BSOD problem. In this article, we have shown some simple fixes to identify and fix the cause of this problem.

Steps to boot your computer into Windows Recovery Environment –

Since you normally can't access Windows RE, you can do it this way.

a. Shut down the system first.

b. Once you're sure it's off, simply press the power button to boot up your system.

c. Once your system boots up, press and hold  the power button again to force your system to shut down once you see the manufacturer's logo.

i.e. Now repeat this process 2-3 more times and allow your computer to boot up normally for the fourth time.

When your computer starts up, Recovery Environment mode will open.

Fix 1 - Rename the registry files

You can try renaming the registry files on your computer.

1. Open the Windows Recovery Environment screen.

2. Then click " Advanced Options " to access it.

3. Then click " Troubleshoot " to go to the next step.

4. Then click " Advanced Options " to continue.

5. After that, click on " Command Prompt ".

6. Then select your administrator account on the next page.

7. Also, type the account password in the box and click Next .

8. This will open the command prompt.

9. Now navigate to the configuration folder.

cd C:\windows\system32\config

10. Now type these two commands one by one and press Enter to create a system and software backup.

Ren-System system_backup
Ren Software Software_backup

11. After creating the backup, just run these two commands to copy the registry hive to the configuration folder.

C:\Windows\system32\config\regback\software
C:\Windows\system32\config\regback\system

After running these commands, close Command Prompt.

12. Also click Next to start your computer normally.

This should fix the problem you are facing.

Fix 2 - Uninstall the latest Windows updates

If you encounter this problem after updating your device, you can simply uninstall the latest Windows updates from your computer.

1. Press the Windows key+R keys at the same time to open the Run window.

2. Then type " appwiz.cpl " and click " OK ".

3. When the Programs & Features window opens, tap View installed updates on the left side .

4. Now you will see the list of installed updates with names, date etc.

5. Make a careful note of which update was recently installed. Just right-click on the last update your computer received and click Uninstall .

Now your computer will uninstall the update patch from your computer. Your computer will restart to complete the process.

After that, check the status of the problem.

Fix 3-Scan the hard drive

The Critical Process Died BSOD error can appear when there is a problem with your hard drive.

1. First, press the Windows key and type " cmd ".

2. Then right-click " Command Prompt " and tap "Run as administrator " to open Command Prompt as administrator.

3. Now write this command and then press Enter to run a disk check.

chkdsk C:/f

This will run a disk check on the disk. If it detects errors in the process, it will repair it.

When the test is complete, simply close the command prompt terminal and restart your computer.

Fix 4 - Run SFC and DISM scans

There are SFC and DISM tools that can check system files for corruption or absence and fix them during the scanning process.

1. You can easily open the Run terminal  by pressing  Windows Key + R.

2. In the  Run window, type " cmd " and then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys at the same time .

2. First, type this command in the terminal and press Enter .

DISM.exe/Online/Cleanup-Image/Restorehealth

Wait a while to complete the process.

3. Once the DISM scan is complete, just run this System File Checker scan to scan your system.

sfc/scannow

After the verification is complete, simply close the command prompt terminal and restart your computer.
