Fix-1 Change file explorer options-

Changing the File Explorer options on your computer may resolve this issue.

1. Press Windows Key+R to open the Run window on your computer. Now type or copy-paste " control.exe folder " in the Run window and then press Enter . File Explorer Options window opens.

2. In the File Explorer Options window , switch to the " View " tab , and then toggle the " Launch folder windows in a separate process " option. (You can enable/disable the option.)

3. Click " Apply " and " OK " to save the changes.

Restart File Explorer on your computer. After opening the window , type file explorer to search something in file explorer and check if the error is still there or not. Your problem should be solved.

Fix 2-via Powershell

1. Press Windows key+R at the same time to open RUN .

2. Write Powershell in it.

3. On your keyboard, press the CTRL+Shift+Esc keys at the same time to open the elevated Powershell window.

4. Write the following command below and press Enter.

Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.Windows.Search | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage-DisableDevelopmentMode-Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

Wait some time for it to run completely.

Fix 3 : rebuild search index

1. Search for indexing options in the Windows 10 search box

2. In the search result, click Indexing Options .

2. Click on Advanced .

3. Select the File Types tab

4. Choose Index Properties and File Contents

5. Click OK .

6. Select OK when the confirmation prompt appears.

Fix 4 : restart file explorer

1. Press CTRL+SHIFT+Esc keys simultaneously to open Task Manager .

2. Now locate Windows Explorer .

3. Right-click and select Restart .

You can also create a batch file to do this immediately if the problem reoccurs.

1. Open notepad.

2. Copy and paste the code given below

3. Save the file as restartexplorer.bat on the desktop or somewhere.

4. Now just click on it to run it whenever this happens.

Fix 5-Change index position once

1. Search for indexing options in the Windows 10 search box

2. In the search result, click Indexing Options .

2. Click on Advanced .

3. Now click Select New .

4. Choose a new location on your PC (for example: C:\Temp )

5. Click Apply and OK and close the window.

Restart the computer.

6. Make sure the Show hidden files option is checked. To do this, simply search for File Explorer Options in the Windows 10 search box and click File Explorer Options.

7. Now click on the View tab . Select the Show hidden files option .

6. Now open it again and change it back to C:\programdata\microsoft

Restart the computer.

Fix 6 : Make sure Windows search service is running

1. Press Windows key+R together to open RUN .

2. Now write services.msc in it and press OK .

3. Locate Windows Search service, right-click it and click Properties .

4. Make sure the Startup Type is Automatic . If it doesn't, change it to Automatic .

5. Make sure the service is also running. If it's not running, click Start to start it.

Fix 7 : Kill Cortana process

1. Press  Ctrl + Shift + Esc simultaneously to open Task Manager.

2. Now find Cortana , right click on it and choose End task .

This will restart the Cortana process and fix the problem.

Fix 8 : Install update KB4532695 to fix this issue

Microsoft has released update KB4532695 which appears to fix this issue for the PC affected by this error. Just download and install KB4532695 from this official Microsoft website.

Fix 9 : Add system permission to a folder

If this problem persists with a specific folder, the system permission for the folder may be missing. To set this, do the following:

1. Right click on the folder

2. Click Properties

3. Click the Security tab .

4. If System does not appear in the list of group or user names, click Edit .

5. Click Add .

6. Write System in the text box and click Check Names .

7. Continue to click OK and close all boxes that have been opened so far.

Fix 10 : Troubleshooting search and indexing

1. Press Windows Key+R together and write Control Panel in the RUN command box and click OK to open Control Panel .

2. Select Large Icons in View By .

3. Click Troubleshoot

4. Click View All in the right menu .

5. Locate Search and Indexing and click on it.

6. Select Files do not appear in search results

7. Continue with the on-screen instructions.

Fix 11 : Standard-Apps nach Protokoll

1. Press Windows key+I to open Settings

2. Click Apps .

3. Click on Default apps in the left menu . Now scroll on the right side and click Choose default apps by protocol.

4. Now scroll and look for Windows Search History on the left side . Once you find it, just select Windows Explorer on the right if it's not selected.
