How to Fix Google Meet Camera is Off Error

Google Meet is an extremely useful video conferencing service widely used by millions of users. Sometimes it can get frustrating when Google Meet shows the Camera is off error while your camera is working fine with every other application. Although this is a very common problem, the solution is not difficult at all. Read on to learn how to fix this annoying problem by following some very simple steps.

Method 1: Change Google Chrome settings

1. Open the Google Chrome web browser . Now click on the three dots icon in the top right corner of the page. From the advanced menu, click the Settings option .

2. Now type camera in the Google Chrome search box You will now see an option that says Site Settings , just like the screenshot below. click on it.

3. Next , scroll all the way down until you find the Permissions section . Click the Camera section to open the camera settings.

4. Next, make sure the toggle button for Ask before accessing (recommended) is ON . If it's disabled, turn it ON .

5. Just below the Ask before access (recommended) option , you will see another section called Block. All web applications that are denied use of your system camera are listed in this section.

Check whether there is an entry https://meet.google.com:443 in this block list . If yes , click the related Arrow button as shown below:

6. Now, under the Permissions heading, you will see the Camera section Select the Allow option from the associated drop-down menu.

7. You can now go back to the Camera Settings page and you will now find that Google Meet has been moved from the Block list to the Allow list . That's it. You can return to the Google Meet webpage and try refreshing the page to see if your camera turns on correctly. If not, go to Method 2.

Method 2: Change Windows 10 camera settings

If the above method didn't work, we need to make some changes to your camera settings in Windows 10. Follow the steps below to fix your problem in . no time to solve.

1. Press the WIN+I keys simultaneously to open the Windows Settings application When it opens, find the tab that says Privacy and click on it.

2. Now in the left pane , scroll down and locate the section called App Permissions . Now, in the App Permissions section , locate and click on the Camera option .

3. Now, in the right pane , you will see a section that says Allow access to the camera on this device . If you see the text Camera access for this device is disabled right below , click the Change button as shown in the screenshot below.

A pop-up window will now give you a Toggle button , Camera access for this device , which you need to turn ON .

4. Just below the above section, you will find another Allow apps to access your camera section . You must also set the toggle key corresponding to this option to ON .

5. Finally, in the same window, look for the Allow desktop apps to access your camera section . Again, toggle the toggle button to the ON state as shown in the screenshot below.

6. That's it. Hopefully your problem is now resolved. Go back to the Google Chrome browser and refresh the Google Meet web page . Check whether the camera turns on or not.
