How to fix NETIO.SYS BSOD error in Windows 10

Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors are always terrorizing and NETIO.SYS BSOD error is definitely one of them. There are many reasons why this error occurs, although in most cases you can fix the problem yourself with a few simple steps. Some of the error messages that you may get with the NETIO.SYS BSOD errors are:

  • PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
  • SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
  • DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
  • IRQL_NOT_LESS_EQUAL
  • SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
  • KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

If you received any of the above messages with your NETIO.SYS BSOD error screen, please try the methods below one by one to fix the problem.

Please note that if you are unable to boot in normal mode due to the BSOD error, you may need to boot your Windows via Safe Boot.

Method 1: Disable/Uninstall Third Party Antivirus Software

Conflicts between your Windows operating system and your antivirus software can result in the NETIO.SYS Blue Screen of Death error. You can either try disabling your antivirus software or try uninstalling it to check if the problem persists. Follow the steps below to uninstall your antivirus software.

1. Bring up the Run dialog box by pressing WIN + R keys at the same time When it appears, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter .

2. Select your antivirus software from the list by clicking on it and then right click and select Uninstall option or click Uninstall button below above after selecting the software.

When the uninstall process is complete, restart your computer .

Method 2: Update your Windows operating system

Corrupt drivers are another reason why you get NETIO.SYS BSOD error. Windows updates will now also check for driver updates. So when you update your Windows, your drivers should also be updated and this might fix the problem you are facing.

1. Call the Windows app Settings by pressing the WIN + I keys at the same time. Click on the Update & security option .

2. Click the Windows Update tab in the left pane and click the Check for updates button in the right pane . strong>.

Wait while Windows checks for new updates for your computer.

3. If new updates are found and installed, a Restart Now button will appear. Click on it to restart the computer and allow the changes to take effect.

Method 3: Update the network adapter from Device Manager

If Windows updates couldn't find any new updates, you can try updating your network adapter through Device Manager.

1. Open the Run window by pressing the WIN + R keys at the same time Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter .

2. When the Device Manager window opens, expand the Network adapters section to view the list of network adapters.

3. You now need to update your network adapter. If you don't know which one to update, follow the steps below:

Type system information in the Windows Start Menu Search bar and launch it from the search results. Now navigate to the following path:

System overview --> Components --> Network --> Adapters

Now, in the right window , you will see the network adapter that you need to update as shown in the screenshot below.

4. Now that you know which network adapter you need to update, in the Device Manager window , right click on it and click on the Update driver option .

5. Next, click on the Search automatically for updated driver software option and wait for the process to complete.

Restart your computer and check if your problem got fixed or not.

Method 4: Run System File Checker utility to repair corrupt Windows files

Blue Screen of Death errors are often caused by corrupted system files. Please follow the steps below to find and repair the corrupted system files on your computer.

1. In the Windows Start Menu search , type cmd . Right- click Command Prompt and then click Run as administrator option.

2. Copy and paste the following command into Command Prompt and press Enter .

sfc /scannow

If you see the message Windows Resource Protection found corrupted files and successfully repaired them after the scan is complete. Details are included in CBS.Log  %WinDir% \Logs\CBS\CBS.log  which means some corrupted files are found and repaired by System File Checker utility. Restart your computer and check if the problem is resolved.

Method 5: Use DISM RestoreHealth option

To run an advanced scan and fix issues with your Windows 10 system image, use the DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management) RestoreHealth option .

1. Type command prompt in the Windows Start menu search . Right- click Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.

2. Copy and paste the following command and then press Enter to repair Windows 10 system image.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

When the process is complete and corrupted files are found, the DISM tool connects to Windows Update to update the corrupted files as needed. Reboot your computer and check if the BSOD error is resolved or not.

Method 6: Perform System Restore

Another reason for the NETIO.SYS Blue Screen of Death error can be a recent change to Windows settings or an installed app. Reverting these changes could very well fix your problem. The System Restore feature comes in handy in such scenarios.

Please note that the system restore feature should already be enabled on your computer for this method to work. If you have already enabled it, you can restore your Windows to a point before the NETIO.SYS BSOD error originally appeared.

1. Open the Control Panel from the Windows Start menu search bar . Once launched, use the Find button at the top to launch Recovery settings.

2. Click Open System Restore Link .

3. When the System Restore window opens, click the Next button .

4. Select the Show more restore points check box to view  all available system restore points on your computer.

Select a restore point before the NETIO.SYS BSOD error first occurred. Click the Next button .

5. To initiate the system restore, you must confirm the system restore point you have chosen by clicking the Finish button . If you want to change the restore point, you can click Back button and make the changes.

Once the whole process is done, restart your computer .
