Windows icons have a default grid structure that allows the user to change the spacing between icons on the desktop. But for some reasons, sometimes that spacing in the grid, which is the space between two icons on the desktop, is too big? and cannot be changed. If you encounter this problem, just follow these simple fixes on your system to solve the problem.
Fix 1 Change value of IconSpacing key
You need to change the value of the IconSpacing key in the registry.
1. First, just press the buttons at the same time? Windows key+R .
2. Then type " regedit " and click " OK ".
Important : Registry Editor is a very sensitive place that stores sensitive registry data. Before proceeding to modify the registry, we ask that you create a backup copy of the registry on your computer.
After opening Registry Editor, click File . Then click " Export " to create a new backup on your computer.
3. After creating the backup, go to this location-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Systemsteuerung\Desktop\WindowMetrics4. Look for the " IconSpacing " key on the right side .
5. Then double click on the key to change it.
6. Set the value to " -1125 ".
7. Then click " OK " to save the change.
8. On the right side look again for the " IconVerticalSpacing " button on the same screen.
9. Just double click on it to access it.
10. In the value of Edit String, set the value to " -1125 ".
11. Then press Enter again .
After saving these changes, close the Registry Editor window.
Then restart your computer.
After the system boots up, check the icon spacing on the desktop. If that doesn't work, try the next one.

If this doesn't work or you feel the distance is still too big? , adjust the values of the keys as below-
1. Open the registry editor.
2. Set the value of the "IconSpacing" key to " -1650 ".
3. Then set the value of the "IconVerticalSpacing" key to " -1200 " in the same way .
Use this to close the registry editor window. Restart the computer and everything will be fine.

Fix 2 : Resize desktop icons
You can try resizing the desktop icons on your desktop to fix the problem.
1. open the desk.
2. Hold down the Ctrl key and use the mouse wheel to adjust the scaling of the icons.
Rolling the mouse wheel up increases the icon size, and rolling it down does the opposite.
3. Also, right click on the free space on the desktop and click " View " and click " Small icons ".

Fix 3 : Set text size, apps desktop
You should try to set the size of the text and apps on the desktop.
1. Open the settings window by pressing the Windows key+I keys at the same time .
2. When the "Settings" window appears, click on the " System " settings.
4. Once System Preferences appears, click " Display " on the left side .
5. Set the Scale to " 150 " in the Scale Options drop-down list.
5. If the drop down option is grayed out or inaccessible, just click on " Advanced Scaling Settings ".
6. Just write " 150 ".
7. Then click " Apply " to apply the custom scaling.
As soon as you set this custom scaling factor, you will see the prompt "The custo scaling factor m will not be applied until you have logged out.
8. Then click " Sign out now ".
This will log out your account. After that, simply log back into your account.
Check the spacing between icons on the desktop. This should have fixed your problem.

This custom scaling should help you solve the icon issue. However, if you want to undo this change, follow these instructions-
1. Open the settings window.
2. Then click on the " System " settings.
3. Now select the " Display " settings on the left side.
4. On the right side of the "Scaling and layout" settings, click "Disable custom scaling and opt out ".
This will stop the custom scaling and set the scaling factor to 100?%, which is also the default.
