How to fix STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE error in Windows 10

You get the STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE error message mainly due to 2 reasons. One reason is that your Bluetooth drivers are outdated or corrupted. The other reason is that your Windows operating system needs an update. To fix the problem, please try the methods below one by one:

Method 1: Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter

The Bluetooth Troubleshooter tries to find and fix any problems with your Bluetooth driver. You can perform Bluetooth troubleshooter in a few very simple steps.

1. Press the WIN+I keys at the same time to open the Windows Settings app . Next, click on the Update and Security tab .

2. In the left pane , under Update & Security , click Troubleshoot .

Now in the right pane , scroll down and locate Find and fix other problems section . Click on the Bluetooth option .

3. Next, click the Run the troubleshooter button .

4. The troubleshooter will now run to find problems. If problems are found, the troubleshooter tries to fix them. Then click the Close Troubleshooter button .

Method 2: Run Windows Update

1. Open the Windows Settings app by pressing the WIN+I keys at the same time. Next, click on the tab that says Update & Security .

2. In the left pane , click the Windows Update section In the right pane , click the Check for Updates button .

3. You may see a Restart Now button when new Windows updates are found and installed. Click on it to restart your computer.

After restarting the computer, check if your problem got fixed or not.

Method 3: Uninstall Windows updates

If you were unable to update your Windows because there are no new updates available, you can try uninstalling the latest updates you have installed as your computer may have an unstable version of Windows updates.

1. Press the WIN+I keys at the same time and open the Windows app Settings . Next, click Update & Security .

2. In the left pane , select the Windows Update section .

Next, click the View update history link in the right pane .

4. You will now see the following window. Click on the Uninstall Updates option .

5. Look for the Microsoft Windows section . From this section , select the recently installed update by clicking on it. After selecting the update, click the Uninstall button at the top .

6. When the update is uninstalled, restart your device and check if the problem is solved or not.

Method 4: Update Bluetooth driver

1. Press the WIN+R keys at the same time and call the Run window Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter .

2. When the Device Manager window opens, expand the Bluetooth section by clicking its arrow.

3. Next , right click on your Bluetooth driver and then click on Update driver option .

4. When the following command prompt opens, click the Search automatically for updated driver software option to have Windows start automatically, just find and install the latest Bluetooth driver for you.

Once the update is complete, restart your computer and check if the problem is resolved.

Method 5: Reinstall Bluetooth drivers

1. Open the Run window by pressing the WIN+R keys at the same time Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter .

2. When the Device Manager window opens, expand the Bluetooth section by clicking its arrow.

3. Next , right- click on your Bluetooth driver and then click on the Uninstall device option .

4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the uninstall process. When finished, START your device. When Windows boots up again, any missing drivers will be downloaded and installed automatically.

Check if your problem got fixed or not.

Method 6: Change Bluetooth driver power management settings

For some users, the error STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE appears, then it goes and comes back after a while. If this is the case for you, the problem is probably related to the power management settings. Follow the steps below to change the power management settings of your Bluetooth driver.

1. Press the WIN+R keys at the same time to open the Run window Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter .

2. Click on the arrow associated with the Bluetooth section or double click to expand the Bluetooth section .

3. Next , right -click on your Bluetooth driver and then click on the Properties option .

4. Click the Power Management tab . Then uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option When you're done, click the OK button below .

Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Method 7: Change power settings for WiFi and Bluetooth adapters

1. Press the WIN+I keys at the same time and call up the Windows app Settings . Click the System tab .

2. In the left pane , click on the Power & Sleep option In the right pane , under Related settings , click the Additional power settings link .

3. Next, under Selected plan , click the Change plan settings link in the Balanced (recommended) section .

4. Now click Change advanced power settings as shown in the screenshot below.

5. When the Power Options window opens, expand the Wireless adapter settings and Power saver sections.

6. Now, for the On battery and Plugged in options , select Maximum performance from their respective drop-down menus.

7. Once both the On battery power and Plugged in options are set to Maximum performance, first click the Apply button and then click the OK button .

Restart your PC and check if the problem is resolved.
