Those working on a Windows 10 system often prefer using the Windows Mail app for their various mail servers. This is the best way to access all your emails from different email clients on a single platform. While this is a useful feature of Windows 10, it also comes with its own problems.
Many users have encountered the Windows 10 mail app crashing issue which has caused many inconveniences. You may need to completely uninstall and reinstall the app. But before that, you can try the following solutions to fix the problem.
Method 1: By running SFC/Scannow
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and type command prompt in the search box. Right-click the result and select Run as administrator to open Command Prompt in administrator mode.
Step 2: In the Command Prompt window , type the following command and press Enter :
sfc/scannowThe scanning process takes time, so be patient until it finishes. It will scan and repair all corrupted files. Once the scanning is complete, restart your PC and your Mail app should work. If not then use the second method.
Method 2: Check for updates
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and select Settings (gear icon) from the context menu which is located above the Power option .
Step 2: In the Settings window , click Update & Security .
Step 3: In the next window, click Windows Update on the left . Now click Check for updates on the right side of the window .
If an update is available, it will be downloaded and installed automatically. Once the installation is complete, restart your Windows 10 PC so the update is complete and the Mail app should work fine. If not, try the 3rd method.
Method 3: By disabling Windows Firewall
Step 1: Press Windows Key+R to open Run command . Now type control firewall.cpl in the search box. Press OK .
Step 2: In the Control Panel window, click Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off on the left side .
Step 3: In the next window, go to the Private network settings section and select the radio button next to Turn off Windows Defender Firewall .
Now go to the Public network settings section and check the radio button next to Disable Windows Defender Firewall .
Press OK to save changes and exit.
Your email app should now work. If the problem persists, try the fourth method.
Method 4: By running the troubleshooter
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and type troubleshoot in the search box. Left click on the result to open the troubleshooting settings .
Step 2: In the Troubleshooting Settings window , scroll down the right side of the pane and click the More Troubleshooting link in blue.
Step 3: Next, in the Find and fix other problems section, scroll down to find Windows Store apps . Select it and click the Run Troubleshooter button .
Let the troubleshooter detect any problems. You will then be asked if you want to reset an app. Follow the instructions until the problem is resolved. Now your Windows 10 Mail app should work again. If it still doesn't work, follow the fifth method.
Method 5: By deleting user account from Windows Mail app
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and type mail in the search box. Click on the result to open the Mail app .
Step 2: In the Mail app, click the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner and click the gear icon ( Settings ) to the bottom-left.
Step 3: Now on the right side of the window, under the Settings option, click on Manage Accounts .
Step 4: Here select the email user account that you want to delete.
For example, here we have selected the Outlook account.
Step 5: In the next Outlook Account Settings (or any account of your choice) window, select the Delete account from this device option.
Step 6: Then click Delete button at the bottom of the confirmation window to remove the user account.
*Note : You must complete this step before you reset the account. So make sure you delete the Windows Mail user account first and then reset the Mail and Calendar app.
Now that you are done with deleting the user account, move on to the 6th method.
Method 6: By resetting the Mail and Calendar app
Step 1: Go to Settings as described in Method 2, Step 1 . Then click Apps in the Settings window .
Step 2: On the next window, scroll down to the Apps & Features section on the right side of the pane . Now look for the Mail and Calendar app and select it.
Below that, click Advanced Options .
Step 3: On the next window, scroll down to the Reset section and click on the Reset button under it .
Step 4: In Command Prompt, click Reset again if you really want to continue.
Now restart your PC and your Windows 10 Mail app should work. If not, try the 7th method.
Method 7: By uninstalling and reinstalling the app
There are two ways to do this.
Here's how to uninstall the Mail app from the right-click menu
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and type mail in the search box. Now right click on the result and select Uninstall to remove the app from your Windows 10 PC.
How to uninstall Mail app using Powershell
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and type powershell in the search box. Right-click Windows Powershell and select Run as administrator to open Powershell with administrative privileges.
Step 2: Now in the Powershell window, run the following command and press Enter :
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps | Remove-AppxPackageHow to reinstall the Mail app from the Windows Store
Step 1: Go to the Start button on your desktop and type Store in the search box. Left-click the result to open the Microsoft Store .
Step 2: In the Microsoft Store window , go to the search box at the top right and type mail. Select Mail and Calendar from the list of results.
Step 3: You will be taken to the Mail and Calendar app page . Click Get to download and install the app.
You have successfully installed the Mail app from the Windows Store. However, if the Mail app is still not working properly, there is a chance that some Mail app packages are missing. In this case, follow the 8th method.
Method 8: By Installing Missing Mail App Packages Using Command Prompt
Step 1: Open Command Prompt in Administrator mode as shown in Method 1 Step 1 . Now in the Command Prompt window, run the following command and press Enter .
dism/online/Add-Capability/CapabilityName:OneCoreUAP.OneSync~~~~0.0.1.0Now restart your PC for the changes to take effect. Your Windows 10 Mail app should now be working properly.
Though the above methods should fix the Mail app crashing issue in your Windows 10 if the problem persists. You can try another email client. At least until you can solve this problem.
