If you see the DCOM Event ID 10016 error in the Event Viewer log file , the problem occurs because a specific program is trying to use DCOM (Distributed Component Object Model) to connect to a server, but the program does not have sufficient permissions. You don't need to worry any more, just follow the process outlined in this article and the problem will be fixed quickly. Before proceeding with the solutions, we strongly recommend that you create a restore point for your computer. If you don't know how to do that, just follow the steps to create a restore point in Windows 10.
Fix 1 - Deleting some registry keys
1. Search for " regedit " in the Windows 10 search box .
2. Then click " Registry Editor " in the search results.
3. In the Registry Editor window, click " File " and then click " Export " to create a backup copy of the registry on your computer.
4. Now you need to save the backup to a safe place on your drive.
5. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to this location in the left pane-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole6. Now delete the following items from the right side (If any of these items given below do not exist, no problems, delete what is present on the right side)
- DefaultAccessPermission
- StandardLaunchPermission
- machine access restriction
- Engine Start Restriction
7. Reboot the PC.
Fix-2 Modify the registry-
Full permission of Administrators group will surely solve this problem.
1. Search for " regedit " in the Windows 10 search box .
2. Then click " Registry Editor " in the search results.
3. In the Registry Editor window, click " File " and then click " Export " to create a backup copy of the registry on your computer.
4. Now you need to save the backup to a safe place on your drive.
5. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to this location in the left pane-
Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c2f03a33-21f5-47fa-b4bb-156362a2f239}6. Now right click on the " c2f03a33-21f5-47fa-b4bb-156362a2f239 " key and then click on " Permissions ".
7. In the Permissions window, click the Advanced tab .
8. Now next to the Owner: option, just click Change to change the owner.
9. In the Select User or Group window , click Advanced .
10. In the next window, click Find Now .
11. Now in the Search Results: tab, search for the Administrators group and select it.
Click " OK " to save it.
12. When you return to the Select User or Group window , under " Enter the object name to select: " you will see " MYPC\Administrators ".
Click " OK " to complete the change.
13. In the Advanced Security Settings window, notice the new " Owner: " as " Administrators (MYPC\Administrators) ".
14. Check the " Replace owner for subcontainer and object " check box, which should be under " Owner: ".
15. Finally, click " Apply " and " OK " to save the changes to your computer.
16. In the Permissions window , click Administrators (MYPC\Administrators) to select it.
17. Next to the Full Control option , check the Allow option .
18. Finally, click " Apply " and " OK " to save the changes.
Now you need to do the same steps again for another registry key.
19. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to this location in the left pane-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\AppID\{316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}
20. Now right click on the key " {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97} " and then click on " Permissions ".
21. In the Permissions window, click the Advanced tab .
22. Now next to the Owner: option, just click Change to change the owner.
23. In the Select User or Group window, click Advanced to change advanced settings.
24. In the next window, click Find Now .
25. Now in the Search Results: tab, look for the Administrators group and select it.
Click " OK " to save it.
26. When you return to the Select User or Group window , under " Enter the object name to select: " you will see " MYPC\Administrators ".
Click " OK " to complete the change.
27. In the Advanced Security Settings window, notice the new " Owner: " as " Administrators (MYPC\Administrators) ".
28. Check the " Replace owner for subcontainer and object " box, which should be under " Owner: ".
29. Finally, click " Apply " and " OK " to save the changes to your computer.
30. In the Permissions window , click Administrators (MYPC\Administrators) to select it.
31. Next to the " Full Control" option, check the " Allow " option .
32. Finally, click " Apply " and " OK " to save the changes.
When finished, close the Registry Editor window .
Now you need to enable local activation of the same group via Component Services -
allow
1. Press Windows Key+R and type " comexp.msc ". Then press Enter . The Component Services window opens.
2. In the Component Services window , on the left side of the window, expand-
Computer > My Computer > DCOM Configuration
3. In the right side panel, scroll down and try to find " Immersive Shell ".
4. Right-click Immersive Shell and click Properties to open Immersive Shell Properties window .
5. In the Immersive Shell Properties window, click the Security tab .
6. Now in the Launch and Activation Permissions tab , select the Customize tab and then click Edit to edit the settings.
7. In the next window click on " Administrators (MYPC\Administrators) ".
8. Under the " Permissions for Administrator " option, check the " Local Activation " option .
9. Finally, click " OK " to save the changes.
10. Finally, when you return to the Immersive Shell Properties window , click Apply and OK to save the changes to your computer.
Close the Component Services window .
Check if the problem persists or not. Your problem should be solved.
Fix-3 Change Query-
Modifying queries in Event Viewer can help you.
1. Click the search box next to the Windows icon and type " Event Viewer ".
2. Then click on " Event Viewer ".
3. In the Event Viewer window, navigate to this location on the left-
Windows-Protokolle > System
4. On the right side of the same window, click " Filter Current Log " to open the Filter Current Log window .
5. In the Current Event Log window, switch to the " XML " tab first .
Now click on " Manually edit query " to review it.
6. A warning message will appear. Just click Yes to continue.
7. Now copy and paste the following lines under the XML tab in the Filter Current Log window .
