Fix error code 0x8007007B during Windows 10 activation

 

Errors like the following may have occurred during Windows activation

• Windows  can not be activated at the moment  . (0x8007007B)
• Activation Error : Code 0x8007007B.
• Windows 10 activation error 0x8007007B.
• Error code 0x8007007B. The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
• There  was a problem trying to activate Windows . Error code 0x8007007B.
• Contact your system administrator to obtain a product key. Error code: 0x8007007B.

Generally, this error occurs when trying to activate Windows with the license purchased as part of Volume Licensing. (KMS or MAK). Common causes for this error are:

• Bad connection to the KMS server (Key Management Service)
• Use of non-genuine Windows
• Corrupt system files

In case you are having this problem activating Windows with the legal copy of Windows, below are some fixes to help you get rid of this problem.

Fix 1: Windows activation by phone

Step 1: Open the Run dialog with Windows+R keys

Step 2: Type slui.exe 4  and press OK

Step 3: If this option is available, the phone activation window will appear

Step 4: Choose Country, Region  and click Next

Step 5: Now a phone number will appear on the screen. Call this number and you will be taken to the Microsoft Product Activation Center

Step 6: You will be asked some preliminary questions about the product you want to activate.

Step 7: Answer the questions and say Yes to be connected to the operator.

Fix 2: Activate Windows from Command Prompt with Slui 3 command

Step 1: Open Run dialog

Step 2: Type cmd and press Enter

Step 3: In the Command Prompt window that opens, type the following command and press Enter

lock 3

Step 4: Now a UAC prompt will appear asking for permissions. Click Yes

Step 5: Enter the product key and click Next

Step 6: When the key is verified, click on the Activate button and then restart your PC.

Check if this worked. If not, try the next fix.

Fix 3: Activate Windows by changing the product key to MAK (Multiple Activation Key).

Step 1: Open Run dialog

Step 2: Type cmd and hold Ctrl+Shift+Enter keys  to open Command Prompt with admin privileges

Step 3: Click Yes on the User Access Control window asking for permissions .

Step 4: In the Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Be sure to press Enter after each command .

slmgr.vbs-ipk xxxxx - xxxxx - xxxxx - xxxxx
slmgr.vbs -ato

In the above command, xxxxx - xxxxx - xxxxx - xxxxx represents a 25-character alphanumeric product code, separated by dashes.

If that doesn't help, try the next fix.

Fix 4: Repair the corrupted files with SFC scan

Step 1: Open Command Prompt with Administrator Privileges (See Steps 1,2,3 of Fix 3)

Step 2: In the Command Prompt window that opens, simply type the following command and press Enter

sfc/scannow

After the scan finishes, the corrupted files will be repaired. Now check if the windows activates without error.
