[Fix] Missing FFmpeg library issue in Audacity

 Did you know that AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) files play much better than MP3 or WAV files and also have the best audio quality than other formats? Therefore, it is used by default in iTunes and is compatible with all players that support MP3 file format. However, if you want to edit the .AAC audio file in Audacity software, opening the file throws the error "FFmpeg Library Missing" and you cannot proceed from there. This article tells you how to fix this error.

Steps to fix FFmpeg library missing error in Audacity

Step 1:  Open the Audacity software by pressing the Win logo key on your keyboard and typing Audacity .

Press Enter .

Note:- Audacity is an open source software that you can download for free if you don't have it installed on your system.

Step 2:  Try to open the .AAC audio file.

Click File on the menu bar and then click Open as shown below.

Or you can also press CTRL + O on the keyboard at the same time.

Step 3: Select the .AAC audio file by browsing your system.

Click the audio file and then click OK .

Step 4:  Once you select the file, you will get the FFmpeg library missing error message as below screenshot shown.

Step 5: To add the FFmpeg library , click Edit and then select Settings as shown .

Step 6:  In the Settings window, go to Libraries on the left side .

Then you will see FFmpeg library not found  is displayed in FFmpeg library version.

Now click Download .

Step 7 : Now you will get to install FFmpeg library update site.

Then click Install FFmpeg Import/Export Library on Windows.

Step 8 : Next, click Install FFmpeg for Windows .

Then click on the FFmpeg download  page as shown below .

Note:- Please close the Audacity application before clicking on the download page.

Step 9 : Look for Windows(R) FFmpeg Installer on the page .

Then click FFmpeg v2.2.2 INSTALLER (.EXE).

Step 10 : Once the installer exe file is downloaded.

Click Open to continue the FFmpeg library installation process as shown below.

Step 11 : The User Account Control window will ask you whether you want to continue or not?

Please click Yes  and continue with the installation process and follow the steps. Onscreen instructions.

Step 12: Now restart the Audacity application.

Then click on Edit and then on Preferences .

In the Settings window, click Libraries on the left .

On the right side you will see the FFmpeg library version as shown below.

Step 12 : Now when you try to open the .AAC audio file, it will open in Audacity.
