There are several ways to start Disk Management on Windows, including Command Prompt. This is the easiest way to open it in less than 5 seconds. You just need to enter a command code and the Disk Management tool will be launched.
Disk Management is a Microsoft Windows utility that allows users to view and manage their system's drives and available partitions. This basically means the user can see all the disks and partitions on their system.
Each drive in this utility is shown with the following items:
- Free disk space
- layout
- status
- volumes, and
- file system among others.
If you right-click on a disk or partition, you will see several options:
- Extinguish
- Shrink
- Expand volume
- format
- Search
- Convert to MBR disk and
- Convert to dynamic disk and some more.

- control panel
- execute order
- command prompt
There are many ways to access Disk Management. Some conventional and time-consuming ways are:
Some out-of-the-box tools use Windows PowerShell (a command-line shell), Command Prompt, and the Disk Management desktop shortcut.
Open Disk Management with the Run command
The shortest and easiest way out is to use the Run command. This command applies to all Microsoft Windows OS versions up to Windows 10. For step-by-step instructions on how to use Run to open Disk Management, see below:
- Press Windows and press R together. This will open the Run toolbox.
- Type diskmgmt.msc in the box or paste it
- Click ' OK '. This will open the Disk Management service application.
You can now view all disks and partitions in the system.
Open with Command Prompt
This is another method to launch Disk Management that works on all Windows OS like 10/8/7/XP. Here are the steps:
1) Press Windows + R key
2) Type CMD and click OK button
3) Now type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter
The Disk Management tool will open on your screen.
Note : You can also just type diskmgmt instead of typing with '.msc'. This works.

Start with the start button
This trick is very easy to remember when you open Disk Management. All you need to start using the Start button are the following steps:
1) Press the Windows key on the keyboard
2) Enter Disk Management
3) Click Create and format disk partitions
The tool will open in front of your system.
Bonus Tip :
You can also use Task Manager to open Disk Management. Press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc key at the same time , click File > New Task (Run) and type diskmgmt.msc and click OK.
The trick given above essentially follows the same method we used in the Run box.
